Harness engineering
When an agent's output is wrong, there are two responses. Fix the output, or fix the thing that produced it. Harness engineering is the second: building the guides that steer an agent before it acts, the sensors that check it after, and the structure that makes the difference between a request and a control. It regulates three things — how the output is shaped, what route the agent took, and whether it did the right thing — and the industry has solved exactly one of them.
Start lesson 01Foundations
- 01Humans on the loopThree positions a person can take, and why inspecting every output is the wrong one.13 min
- 02Guides and sensorsWhat a harness is made of, and where to spend the expensive checks.13 min
- 03Building a harnessA worked example, in the order the parts should be added, and the three things a harness regulates.14 min
Three targets
- 04Regulating maintainabilityThe mature third: shape, schema, style, and why it should be entirely code.11 min
- 05Regulating architectureThe emerging third: routes, preconditions, and asserting on the trace rather than the answer.12 min
- 06Regulating behaviourThe unsettled third, and what honest practice looks like when the problem is not solved.13 min
